Analyisis of music video (Jack Bugg - Lighting Bolt)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY0oPg1h8fQ

There is no significant story to this music video; it is just different shots of a city and the performer. I don’t know if there is any relation between the shots of this music video and the lyrics of the song, but if there are they are not that noticeable to an audience. The shots that are in the music video consist of lots of different landmarks filled with people. Nothing to exiting for the audience and it is just a simple and low budgeted music video which would be perfect for us.

The lighting of this film is yet again quite natural, but in some of the shots they use the black and white effect and also make the shot look like it was taken from an old camera. I think that they did this to tie in with the genre of the music. It is a very good idea and really does complete the effect on such low budgeted makings. The camera tends to have quite a shake to it no matter where it is being filmed it is always on the move. A lot of the shots that are taken for this video are establishing shots to show the audience where it is being filmed. Also when the camera is focused on Jake it tends to be quite medium shot so that the audience can get a good look at him and also view where he is.

Most of this video is the artist performing in different locations and scenes. They did not really have the idea for a story to go with this song because the lyrics are not really relatable to any kind of plot that could be created. The location of this film is in a specific city and there are some shots of signs that can give away where it is being filmed. Most of the shots are showing a lot of different places in this city, some have the performer in and some don’t. Either way there is nothing that doesn't have a city shot in or something from that specific location.

The costume of Jake in this is simply his day to day clothes by the looks of things. He probable wanted to do this because he is very young and he didn't really want to symbolise anything but himself on the screen. I think that this is very good because it really does shoe how young the performer is and it is quite inspiring. The main prop on this video is his guitar that he uses. He plays this instrument himself whilst he sings and I think that he wanted to publicise this because it is quite a talent. Apart from this there is not really any other significant props of costume that contributes towards the success of this music video.

The location of this film doesn't seem to be relevant to the song in anyway but it still provides an interesting view for the audience. The video is set in a crowded city which has some known landmarks. There are clues throughout the video that hint about what city it is. All of the camera work is focused on this city and is portrayed in different camera styles and effects which make it a bit more interesting to look at.

The representation of Jake's age is very important in this music video because it shows that he is very young but the fact that he can do what he wants and make a career out of this is very important for the audience to know because it is a very inspiring representation.

Analyisis of music video (Bring Me The Horizon - Sleepwalking)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lir3dzYIhz0

The story of this song is quite unclear on first views. The whole idea for this video is to be very abstract in the way that it is filmed and acted for. This means that it makes the audience think about what they are watching on the screen instead of just listen to the music. The shots of the actor are just a young girl who is walking and running around quite aimlessly into the distances. Most of the shots are of people interacting with random objects and of the band playing their song. Also, some of the scenes that are in this video are going back in time. My theory is that this girl might be thinking that she is sleep walking and going around and doing all these deeds like she is in a dream, when in actual fact she isn't. This means that there might not be any relevant story to the song, and if there is it could be based on a person experience from one of the band members.

Surprisingly for this song the lighting is actually quite natural and not as dark as you would expect it to be on a video for one of these genres. Apart from the scene where the girl is running around in the dark all of the lighting is naturally on all of the character and the scene. All of the light that is on the character is natural, for example when the girl is standing next to the fire at night, her face and body is being lit up by these flames. When the camera is on the band it is very shaky and the camera doesn't really get too close to the members faces. However, when the camera is on the girl it is quite steady and slow and to show the fact that she is sleep walking. This gives a calm effect on the audience and calms them down.

In this music video the artists don’t perform as actors, they just perform their music as themselves; this is including all the band members. For the performance it is all based around a young girl that goes around to different locations like she is sleepwalking. She holds most of the focus on her from the camera apart from a few extras that she comes across in the video.

The costume of the band members is quite casual and so is the costume of the girl. They obviously wanted to make this video quite relatable to the audience that they are aiming at. The props are quite important in this video; there is one prop that stands out to me most in this video which is the rock that she is carrying around with her. I do not exactly know what this rock symbolises or what the young girl does with it. It could just be to represent normality. The band members also use all of their instruments and equipment in their performance.

Also there are multiple locations on where this is set. For some reason the band are playing in a typical pub where people are watching them and not really taking interest in them. The reason that this could have been done is because they might have been trying to make a personal connection with the audience by showing them as just average joes, as appose to heavy rockstars. The girl starts off in her bed and then moves onto the location of the beach. Then she is in quite a snowy scene but still with the sea next to her. The locations of this place don’t really make that much sense but she is always by the sea. This could be in relations of where she got the rock from. After this video she then wakes up in her bed again. There is no significant representation in this music video. The screamer singers are represented to be quite tattooed and darkly dressed. And the young girl is represented to be innocent yet in her dreams she does some weird activities.

Analyisis of music video (The Script - The Man Who Cant Be Moved)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS9o1FAszdk

What I first noticed about this music video is that they didn't have any video footage of their band playing the song, just the lead singer in the street and it showed the band towards the end and in small snippets of the video. I found this quite strange because I thought that they would want to publicise their band as much as possible during the early days of their build up. The story of this song is a young man who loves a girl but she has left him and he is trying to fight for her back. The way that he does this is by going back to the first place where they met and staying there until she comes to him. This sticks entirely with the lyrics of the song and is very relevant to it all.

The story of this in the music video is quite rough, there for the mise-en-scene for the clips needs to be exact. It is all a very well lighted music video because it is set in the city at day time which means the natural light does the job for the camera crew. A lot of the camera shots in this music video are medium close ups of either the main singer of the band. I think that this is because they really wanted to show their facial expressions towards these lyrics and overall bring the audience much closer to them. This is important because this song is quite powerful so you want to make it as person as possible. There are no other main actors apart from the main singer. Apart from all the extras that are roaming around the set.

The performance of the main singer in this video is quite good and he portrays him how he was meant to be. His performance consists of hi travelling to the place where they first met and also sitting there and having interactions with different people, this is whilst singing as well. I think that because of the closer shots that happened, this made his performance because of the focus on his and face and also what was around him.

The costume for this character is still the same as what he would have worn in everyday life but it was also visible that they were a bit rougher than normal and could easily be shown for someone who did live on the streets. His costume doesn't change throughout the whole video but he does use it in different ways. For example when it rains in the music video he puts his hood up and kind of uses it for a shelter so that he can still wait in that spot no matter what. He is also wearing the same clothes that he is when there are the clips of him singing with the band.

The only props that are shows in this video are the watch that he wears and the sleeping back. The watch is very important to this video because throughout it the camera is cut away to a close-up of it to show how much time is moving through and how long the man has been sat there. The sleeping bag is in the lyrics so it was quite necessary for it to be in the video. There were also the bands instruments when they were playing and the actors that were playing the news reported and camera man had the props of the microphone and camera. This music video so far only has the representation of a young man looking for a woman. There is not really any other form of representation apart from that.
